I have been OTR trucking for five years now. Lord knows I have many complaints. (Did I mention I'm also a woman? Well, I'm a 41- year old woman. I'm 5'3", 115 lbs. and I flatbed.)

I go through clothes and gloves like crazy and every truck stop I go to NEVER has small work gloves. Not knit freeze your fingers off in two seconds gloves, but real insulated, latch over gloves. Everything in your stores caters to the male populous in trucking. I realize woman are still the minority by far in this industry, but we are here and deserve the same products of necessity the men can just walk in grab and pay for.

My other complaint is your washers suck. I have no delicate way of putting this. They are overpriced and too small to fit overalls and coveralls in, and what does fit rarely comes out clean or even rinsed well.

Even more frustrating is having maintenance washers in with the truckers laundry room! WTH is that about?

I have gotten so fed up that I will do anything in my power to avoid your stores if at all possible and literally leap for joy if I find a laundromat I can get my truck into. I could care less about your damn wifi. Fix the real issues in your stores, quit catering to the four wheelers and claiming to be " a truck stop" when in reality you have become another glorified gas station that makes my job harder to do instead of easier.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Colette D. Loosey.

They're Gentlemen on the streets and Freaks in the restrooms at Flying J truck stops.

While we can sympathize with your predicament(s) it still remains true that the overwhelming majority of truckers are men, altho there are alot of male/female partners in the cabs these days. The gloves issue is near and dear to my heart as I apparently have hands too big for the small sizes and too small for the large size.

Finding gloves in a medium size is rather difficult. You might want to go to an online retailer like Amazon.com and see what you can find in the size and style you need. Once you find a brand you like, stock up for the future. As for the washing facilities, good luck on that.

Take more changes of clothes with you is the only advice I can give you. Places like Pilot may provide the amenities like washers, etc., but apparently do so grudgingly and half-hearted. You've chosen a tough profession.

Enjoy it while you are young. In 20 years, the "thrill of it all" will have evaporated.

I'm 41 soon to be 42 and believe me the thrill of it all sailors years ago. I ran dry van team before this.

Thank you for your political response. I didnt really expect results, but it did help to vent. One more thing though. The only way to change anything is to make changes.

Not just in my wardrobe choice, but in the industry itself. The "oh well, that's just the way it is" attitude isnt what got us the right to vote and dammit!

I want my gloves stocked where I want them stocked. Not Amazon.

I was in on truck stop outside of Houston and I was in there watching the movie in the movie room. A security guard came in and approached me and asked me "Are you a Truck Driver?" I said "No." He asked "Are you riding with a Truck Driver?" I said "No" He asked "Do you have a vehicle parked out front?" and I said "No" He then said "Well then you're going to have to leave!" I didn't really want to be in there anyway, I was just in there because it was real wet outside and it was the middle of the night and no one would pick me up.

Earlier, when I had entered the truck stop, the lady cashier looked horrified at me as I walked in with shoes caked in mud.

I think that she was the one who told the security guard about me. I didn't like being in the movie room because one the movie wasnt any good and two I felt uneasy being around all of the *** looking truck drivers and three because I just wanted to either go to sleep or move on down the road and I couldn't do either one inside of the truck stop.
